Taereung is the tomb of Queen Munjeong, the royal third consort of the King Jungjong, the 11th the Joseon Dynasty. Gangneung is the tomb of the King Myeongjong, the 13th ruler of Joseon Dynasty, and his consort Queen Insun. Queen Munjeong wanted to move her husband Jungjong’s tomb(Jeongneung) to the current Gangnam area of Seoul and to be buried together in Jeongneung after her death. But as the Jeongreung was flooded every time it rained and the damage increased frequently, her son Myeongjong built the Taereung for Queen Munjeong in its current place. Later, Gangneung has been built.
